以「十四代」的秘傳技術「秘伝玉返し」釀造，指在釀造酒時，添加了「粕取燒酎」，「粕取燒酎」乃以精米至只有35%釀酒後的酵母渣滓再蒸餾出來的酒精，質地非常醇厚，重新加入至釀造的清酒中調整酒的風味，使本釀造酒中散發出吟釀的香調，十分考驗杜氏的功力。「高木酒造」為這瓶特別本釀造取了「本丸」這個名字，在日語裏「本丸」代表城中心，又引伸指事物的中心，初時呈現淡淡的蜜瓜及香蕉果香，口味清新香甜，中段轉為圓潤飽滿的口感，微辛味漸漸滲出，令人回味，「角新」版本的「本丸」帶來更清新爽口的口感。
